  • Sierraville: Junction of Highways 89 and 49. Truckee: Starbucks parking lot, 11355 Deerfield Dr

Ride:             43 - 68           Moderate / Hilly /Mountainous                  Flexible

Leader:    Steve

Description:  Sunday, May 15: "Ride Sierraville and surrounding area." Start time: 10 am. All routes begin and end in Sierraville at the junction of highways 89 and 49. One ride would encompass the Sierra Valley. 59 miles with 1700' of climbing. This is a mostly flat route that takes us through the Sierra Valley and includes spectacular views of the snow covered Sierra crest. The other two routes climb Yuba Pass and Gold Lake Road. The longer route returns to Sierraville via the Sierra Valley, thus avoiding a long stretch with no shoulder on highway 89. The shorter route returns via highway 89 south. It is recommended that riders carry food as stores and restaurants are few and far between.

Monday, May 16: "Ride Brockway Summit and Mt. Rose." Start time: 10 am. Start location is the Starbucks parking lot, 11355 Deerfield Dr., Truckee (corner of highway 89 and Deerfield Dr. in the SaveMart shopping center). The rides are similar except that the longer ride climbs to the summit of the Mt. Rose highway (elevation 9,000'). There are stores and restaurants along the way.

At the ride leader's discretion, either or both rides may be cancelled if a weather forecast predicts rain, snow or very cold weather.

Please contact Steve Forsberg, 916-801-8295 if you are planning on riding either or both rides and about lodging arrangements in the Truckee area.
